[need photo of completed decorated hat]
I’ve been very happy about the joy that Daisy Scouts has given Claire. Once a month, she’s surrounded by a wonderful group of girls. They’re all excited about learning about building character. Not very exciting, I know. The leaders and the Daisy Scout people masterfully present to really engage the girls and empower them.
This week was my turn to lead the meeting for the Gerri Petal. The topic? Respecting authority. Definitely not my strength. I’m not going to mention details. Nevertheless, I completely agree that recognizing authority and its value provides kids with a framework in which to understand which limits are hard and fast and which limits should be pushed. When can they express creativity and experiment? Um, not at a stop sign, when you absolutely must stop the car.
I searched for suitable crafts. Seems like many emphasized the notion of hats and that of authority figures, such as police officers and firefighters.
WeHaveKids (https://wehavekids.com/youth-programs/Daisy-Girl-Scouts-Earning-the-Respect-Authority-Petal) suggests playing “Simon Says” in which “‘Simon’ wears hats of different authority figures.”
We decided to play red light-green light with the officer that visited. Very fun!
For the craft, we decorated baseball caps [need photo of plain baseball caps] with embroidered daisy.
I purchased the baseball caps from Michaels. Love those coupons!

And, one of the best discoveries of all with this craft is a fantastic fabric glue. Very easy to work with. Another one that I’ve used is far too thick and stringy.
